Third, the 70D has taken on quite a lot of the 7D's spec at a reduced price point.

The 70D has taken certain parts of the four-year-old 7D's spec. That says practically nothing at all about a potential 7D2 in late 2013/early 2014.

There is a HUGE gap between the 70D and the 5D3, waiting for a 7D2 to drop right in to. And the feature mix of the 6D is so different as to have no bearing on it at all.

I don't think so - the 6D fits right in the price gap between the 70D and 5DIII, sure, it's a very different camera, but it's still there at the price point.

Ford makes SUVs that cross over into the Mustang price point. Guess they should drop one from the lineup, how silly to have 2 vehicles at the same price. How anyone can make a choice like that is beyond me.

The vehicle market is very, very different from the DSLR market. Much higher unit price, much higher volumes, totally different manufacturing methodology. The 6D and a 7DII would share almost nothing, so having two different products is just splitting the market. Unless a 7DII would generate significant extra sales (compared to what Canon would sell without it) it just isn't worth having for them.

When has Canon ever had two DSLR's occupying the same price point (current ones, that is - not obsolete ones being sold off)?
