Upgrading S95, but on the cheap.

I have a Canon S95 and just realized that micro 4/3rds stock kits are getting affordable.  I would like a camera with more manual options and creative control, and better image quality, but that I can use as an everyday carry. We are moving to the Middle East and the residents of our host country are reportedly camera shy.

  • I don't care a lot about video quality--I've never gotten into shooting video.  It would be nice but is not a deal breaker
  • Should I care about touch screen, or is it a gimmick?
  • I mostly care about image and sensor quality for still shots
  • A metal body and solid feeling manual controls would be an added bonus
  • I have about $450 to spend
  • I have to act fast--my wife can sense that there is money in my slush fund
  • Will a pancake lens feel limiting after a while?

Thank you for your help with this awkwardly n00bish question.  If I didn't have this forum I would just end up going to Amazon and buying the highest rated camera in the $400 range.
