I am considering purchasing the sigma 17-70 2.8-4 and was wondering how the dof compares to something like the 24-105 L lens. They both have almost the same fl and aperture as the 17-70 on apsc is aprox. 25.5-105mm.

can anybody tell me how they would compare dof wise. I think they should be similar, please tell me if I am wrong.

Are we talking about the Canon 24-105 f4L IS here? Only I notice that almost all of your posts have been on the Pentax SLR forum and I don't know whether Pentax also has a 24-105mm lens.

You can check the DoF of the two lenses here: depth of field calculator

Note that they don't have the same focal length on APS-C - the 24-105mm is only medium wide at the wide angle end. The focal length doesn't change when you change sensor.

Yes, I viewed some pictures of the canon 24-105 and really like some of the results.

Thanks for the dof calculator
