S5 Pro small aperture problem

Hey there! I'm normally a Nikon shooter, but recently acquired a used S5 Pro mainly just to experiment with it and because I have heard so much about it.

At this point I've had the camera for a couple of months and initially everything seemed working fine. But, when I took it with me on vacation (which is where I'm now), I've started to encounter an odd problem. I have Nikkor 17-55 and Tokina 50-135 with me, and from what I can tell the same problem happens with both.

It goes like this: at large apertures up to and including f/5.6 all is well and good. Once I go to f/6.3 and smaller, the shots get overexposed, seemingly proportionately to how far I strayed from f/5.6, and after a shot is taken Err starts flashing on the display. It almost appears as if the camera wouldn't allow the lens to close beyond f/5.6, realizes this after the shot is taken and notifies me of the error. If I pull the battery out and put it back in, the first shot seems to be okay, and then the odd behavior resumes.

So, I'm wondering if I'm overlooking some setting there, but going through the Setup and the menu nothing caught my eye. Just in case, I verified that Auto ISO is OFF, though I don't see any direct connection. The same behavior occurs in aperture priority and in manual mode.

Has anyone seen that? Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Thank you for your insights.
