Is choosing a new camera such a big deal?

So many come here with the words, "Deciding which camera is driving me crazy" & things of that ilk. Seeing as "A camera is only a tool" & with all the PP available, is it really that important which one we choose? I had a 600D as my first camera 2 yrs ago. It took me a half hour to decide without being a member of a forum, as i joined DPR 5 months later, or talikng to anyone except the salesman, & reading 1 magazine. I ended up buying a 7D 6 months or so later, as the arthritis in my hands/fingers got worse. I didn't want to give up photography, so opted for a larger camera that was comfortable & easy to use. No wailing & gnashing of teeth!

Taking away the FF v APS-c, is it such a hard thing to do? Or am I just a lucky s*b?
