Three grands worth of kit hits the deck, thus spoiling my day somewhat.

I had only just taken delivery of my new E5. Thought I would go out with the 35-100mm and see what the pair could do. Spent some time in Wells Cathedral then out in the fields. I got back in car and stuck combo into backback, and here is the crucial part - did not zip it up, cos I thought I would be taking it out again.

Arrived home, opened car door and lifted backpack and swung it out of car...

Camera and lens flew out onto driveway - lens broke free of its flange plate leaving an expensive looking mess on the dirt. As I stared glumly at this lot I though "well at least Oly gear is tough"

Removed what was left of the 35-100, ie a metal plate from the body and stuck another lens on. Camera seems to be fine. After I shook out some little screws from inside. Remarkable - not a mark on it.

So I called courier and arranged pickup to Olympus repair centre:

"Do you want to insure it for full amount in case of damage?"

"Eh, no, I'll take my chances thanks"
