It's fully sealed against internal infiltration by the likes of dust and hair, let alone moisture. And while I like the look of the 52mm center pinch lens cap, the front element is way more beautiful naked. I've been shooting this lens for six years now, it's been rained on, snowed on, soaked with seawater, covered in desert dust, rinsed of same under a kitchen faucet; it has nothing to fear from a bit of carpet and a couple of strands from my favorite co-mammal.
