There's the physics, and then there's what you do with them -- i.e., with new technology vs. old. That's why, despite being smaller, the EM5's sensor bests the EOS-M's in low light and DR. That's also why, going back further, it also bests the 5D Mk1's.

All things being equal, larger sensors have advantages over smaller sensors. But all things are rarely equal.

I wonder whether people will truly stop caring when even an m43 sensor can do 15 stops of DR noise-free at ISO 12800. It'll happen sometime.
