one of my first jobs was target tracking (having some mathematical and control theory background).

I found:

  • For any tracking algorithm there will be a case that will go wrong.
  • Human brain and sensors can't be replaced easily.

So I think all you can do is to set up a set of tracking algorithms for certain situations and you , the user has to decide which one to select. Not all situations can be covered I guess.
