I have learned NOTHING.

All these rules and recommendations strictly relate to the RAW software OP uses.

I do not use LR and I've found all this stuff counterproductive and harmful.

I use SilkyPix, so I do not expose to the right, and I do not expose to the left, and I expose to the middle (unless I have my idea). During PP I simply expand DR (dynamic range) up to +3 using one slider. That is it. I'm done

The rules discussed in this thread apply regardless of whether you use LR or Silkypix.

I stand by my assessment.

You mean you stand by your opinion?

That merely means you abstain from optimizing exposure due to not having the facts right.

I stand by my assessment. I trust my facts and trust my eyes. I did it before, and I do it now.

The problem is your facts are not facts, merely incorrect perceptions.

Many (most) of the pictures I take with my E-M5 look like sh*t when I inspect the jpegs (which often appear to be wildly overexposed). When I pull them back in the RAW converter, however, the results are better (less noisy) than they would have been if I had tried to make the OOC jpeg look right.

Maybe there is something wrong with your copy of camera. I believe that many owners praise the OOC quality of JEPGs from Olympus.

Nothing wrong with my camera, only with your logic and perceptions.

Probably, there is one thing to mention - I do my ETTL/R not by playing with exposure, but trying to find particular spot and camera angle tilt/swing to achieve right exposure when taking shot. I prefer to sweat while taking a shot

As expected...
