The Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 was my first UWA. It is a very decent lens, but is not as good optically as the 8-16. The corners tend to be a bit soft and it has fairly nasty flare characteristics if you have a bright light source in frame. For most purposes it is fine, and the price is very good. I do think that the Nikon 10-24 is slightly better overall.

It was the opposite for me. I originally had and still have the Sigma 10-20 and tested a Sigma 8-16mm last year. I kept my 10-20mm. The 8-16mm corners at 8 or 10mm. were worse than the 10-20mm no matter what aperture I used. The center was marginally better on the 8-16mm. It's possible I have a better 10-20mm than most (It's my second) and that I had a bad 8-16mm.

I wish somebody would create an ultra wide for DX that would be just as good as the Nikon 14-24mm but wider of course. I'd be willing to pay more for it.
