Lenses of shorter lengths do not need stabilization.  If the 20 1.7 needed OIS, it would have it.  In fact, no lens needs stabilization.  All any lens needs is a human to select the proper combination of shutter speed, aperture and ISO...or to have a tripod handy when necessary.  This dependency on stabilization is silly.

Why? It's a solution to a problem like any other... Some would turn around and tell you that depending on (or having to resort to) a tripod when having IS available is just as silly. I'm just playing devil's advocate btw, not trying to argue the need for IS with the 20mm or vice versa.
