With my "standard" vision and 10x mag I can easily see the sensor-pixel level image on my 5D2 screen.  Holding down the DOF preview button I get perfect tilt every single exposure (though it takes a few tilt/checks to get the balance).  Trying to do this as precisely with an OVF, even a very good one, is a comparative shot in the dark.  The rebels are even worse because of their tunnel vision VFs and the fact that images are less contrasty at 100% for in/out of focus cues (due to smaller pixel pitch).  LV saves the day on my 550D.
