You've overlooked something.  After there's this many colors, it's not the number of colors that's important.  It's the accuracy.  I owned the D200 for long enough to see what I also would call plasticy and smooth.  The colors on the D200 were never really right.  My feelings about the camera after 8 months with it was that it was a nice feeling piece of a waste of my money.  I got rid of it.
