Photomatix insufficient memory

Not sure if it's my computer's spec problem, a hardware problem or (unlikely?) a software problem. I've encounted the insufficient memory error when trying to process the HDR image. I have tried restarting my computer once and loading Photomatix without any significant background tasks running (just the standard windows background programs, skype, antivirus etc).

Trying to tonemap 10 JPG images that have a combined size of around 43mb. I run a Windows 8 (64bit) i5 1.70ghz with 16gb RAM.

It's the first time that I've tried inputting this amount of images at once in the program, previously it's usually limited to 3 to 5. It's also the first time I've used the program on this Windows 8 computer. All my previous experience was on Windows 7.

After restarting the computer and attempting the tonemapping task once, Task Manager says available memory is at 11.9gb with 2.8gb cached.

Any tips please?
