Why does the olympus/panasonic flash system control through light?
1

Does anyone know the plus points of using light signals to control external flashes rather than radio signals? I've got a couple of different external radio triggers and they can be made pretty small, of which over half is battery space anyway.

I imagine the space taken up doesn't have much to do with it. I would guess at the need for an aerial but tbh you can just use a surface panel as an aerial. Basically I just can't figure out why they have decided to go with light signals instead of radio signals to control system flashes when off camera. Radio signals could provide a real selling point over other systems and would make for much easier setup.

Thanks.
