I have 10 Nikon and Canon lenses, all excellent in different ways, that cover 85mm.

The 85L is the best lens I own.  It is magical and special.  I never use it.  I'd never sell it, but buying it, for me, was perhaps a mistake.

For street photography, a small f1.8 prime, like the ancient Nikon 85/1.8D I just bought, is smaller and focuses faster.

The 85L is a specialists lens.   You should only buy it if you're well-heeled enough to burn 2k, or you make a living shooting portraits.
