I don't think it's designed for any specific camera and I don't think that matters anyway. It's about designing the best lens possible. Higher quality lens will benefit users, no matter what camera they use.

As for Canon 85/1.2, it's a sweet lens already. When an upgrade comes, eventually, Canon's job is to come out with something even better. If they do that, it will be more expensive, but photographers will get a spectacular lens that can serve you for many years to come. Lenses of highest quality are always worth it.
