Hello,

I can only partly agree. Of course 2.8 @200mm is providing a very shallow debth of field, but as already mentioned the perspective is totally different compared to 85mm.

Sometimes that maybe wanted, sometimes not. Fact is, 200 and 85mm a different focal lenth with different results.

I for example own the 70-200 IS II, and bought a Sigma 1.4 85mm, because I wanted to have a brigth 85mm portrait lens. So when the budget is a little tighter and it is a either or decsision the Sigma is a nice substitute for the Canon 1.2 85 - too make it clear, I do not say it es the better lens. If money doesn't matter or the 85mm would be my absolutey main and most beloved focal lenght I surly would prefere the Canon - but for me I thought the Sigma is the better bargain and I am more than happy with the lens.

To sum it up: The picture results/impression of 1.2/1.4 85mm vs. 2.8 200mm are totally different - period. And of course a matter of taste and the wanted results.

Regards,

Daniel
