The 50mm focal length is better for tight portraits, the 30mm better for full body portraits.

The 50 can be found barely used in the mid $200 range so not that much more expensive, although the Sigma is really cheap.

The 50 is faster (better for portrait and low light) and has OSS (better for low light and video). Both are sharp (Sigma is probably sharper for pixel peepers, but both are plenty sharp). The 30 is smaller and lighter.

I had both and sold the 30. I love the 50 and it's worth the extra cost and size if the focal length works for you.
