FF Digital Spotmatic K Coming ... ??

According to some rumours from the other Pentax forum, Pentax is apparently readying to launch 24MP Digital FF Spotmatic styled camera, with K-mount. So it's not just retro Pentax is going towards, but hyper-retro.

The new camera will be

  • hyper-retro look in Spotmatic style,
  • sporting stop down / auto diaphragm
  • M42 lens support with a dedicated K adapter.
  • 24 MP sensor from Sony
  • dedicated video button ..
  • optional battery grip

The standard lens will be a Ultra-Multi-Coated (U-M-C) Takumar 50/1.4, with an alternate choice of a new FA K 24-105mm f/3.3-4.6 zoom.

State of the art tech in a totally new, retro-styled package. Battery apparently can muster 400-500 shots, with extra battery grip around 1000. (will it share K30/K50 battery?)

The picture below is the original Spotmatic and you will notice that its body is very similar to recently announced MX-1 (and many other K-mount film cameras). Perhaps the MX-1 was a good exercise for Pentax (and maybe new 'Spotmatic' will have brass elements too?)

Of course, take this rumour with a grain of salt. But that it's quite an original rumour, that's true too.
