Capturing "action" with an X camera

A couple days ago I had the chance to play a few minutes with a friend's X-E1 but not enough to understand its capabilities neither I could download a file on my computer to compare with my old S5 ones.

Sure the camera is light and compact compared to an SLR, I can't almost carry it anymore half a day with me and I just go around with the 50mm and a wide angle zoom, a mirrorless would save my back and shoulder for sure but I always wonder which is the operating speed compared to my old S5 which is well known not to be a shotgun when it's up to burst and AF speed, by example, a few days ago I was having lunch and took the S5 with the 50mm and out of a few shots I found one worth the pain, a slightly moving subject and that's when I wonder if the X cameras could capture the same action given that in these occasions my perfect setup is the S5 with the 50mm which is light and fast (even though not the AF-S one), would love to hear your thoughts.

thank you
