Why is my NEX not as good as RX100 or even LX5?

You're comparing the 2 optically worst NEX lenses against a Zeiss and Leica lens. Virtually any other NEX lens would perform better. The Sigma 30 or 19 are inexpensive and very sharp, for example.

You're also shooting scenes with objects at differing distances. The larger sensor on the NEX equates to longer lenses and shallow Depth of Field. The RX100 and LX5 are able to get more of the scene in focus due to the smaller sensor/lens and deeper DoF. The NEX can't get as much in focus, so focus becomes much more critical. Often what people think is lack of detail is actually lack of focus or depth of field.

If these landscape scenes are the types of photos you take, you may find that a smaller sensor and high quality lens like the RX100 or LX5 give you equally good pictures with good depth/sharpness compared to the NEX. Try taking a portrait with both, and you'll see the difference. The NEX can easily blur the background even with a kit lens, but you'll struggle to do that with the others.
