The 16-50mm is the best lens that I own, and I own 4 Tokina 2.8 lenses. I did not know that Tokina stopped production on it.

Unfortunately they have, and the used ones now appear to typically sell for $800-$1000.

The funny thing is that the 50-135f/2.8 (Have one also), is another superb lens that was discontinued and they are relatively affordable on Ebay

This is an exceptional range and max aperture for aps-c.  I rented a sigma 50-150 f/2.8 (the older non-stabilized one) - it was a manageable size and a good, no - really good range.  For my purposes, 50mm on the wide end is much more useful than starting at 70mm (like a 70-200 f/2.8).  Oh, and this older Sigma also has really good IQ.  I have heard the Tokina 50-135 f/2.8 is also a good performer.
