They sure look like stars to me. Clarity increases contrast in the midtones. I bet that the stars were really faint and lightroom brought them out. The first 22 shots were likely exposed differently and thus didn't have these hidden stars.

This is the whole point of RAW photography. There is information "hidden" to the human eye, that would otherwise be lost with a JPG.

I thought they might be stars too at first. But, I think they're not, because they're too uniform, there are none in a narrow ring around the moon, and I repeated some of the effective exposures from the first 22 in the latter shots. I would love it if they were, but the sky was light enough that I couldn't see any stars. Can't see how super dim ones would get picked up with such a short exposure.

I am however seriously impressed with how much LR can pull out of shadows. Had a couple of landscape shots that went from completely black to deep green with fair detail just by maxing the shadows slider.

Thanks for your reply.

The dark area around the moon could be from the moon's brightness washing them out.   Unless you are in the boonies that's a lot of stars though.  Especially at ISO 100.  I think I was likely too hasty to declare them stars.
