Had both and this comment captures my impression exactly: Sigma on all counts.  I found myself nodding at (pretty much) all published tests which say the same.  I wonder if anyone saying the two are similiar wide-open has actually tested Sigma or referred to the published test results.

Now, the new 35mm f/2 IS is another story, but then we are no longer talking f/1.4.
