get the largest ball you can afford ...

My budget is $200 max but thats pushing it.

find out what the base diameter of your tripod column is ... 2 inches? 1.75 inches? that might limit your option in terms of what ballhead to get ... if your ballhead base diameter is much bigger than your tripod column, it might mess with your tripod function ... it'll also let you know that your legs might be "weaker" than your ballhead ...

if you've got the base measurement worked out (or don't care), buy the biggest ball diameter you can afford. not counting different materials, bigger balls handle bigger loads, but besides that they need less adjusting, are easier to adjust, and will stay put better than smaller balls ...

less than 1.5" might be pushing it ... bigger is better in this case, though your wallet may be the final limiting factor ... the rrs bh-55 is 2.2" and pretty well-regarded as one of the best, but costs $350ish ...

oben makes a 1.7" ballhead for $170

feisol makes a 2" ballhead for $170

cullmann makes a massive 2.1" ballhead for $175

sirui makes a similar ballhead for $165

see if the knobs and clamps are the kinds you like and make your choice ... if you can, make sure that the camera doesn't move as you tighten the knob, that's a real turn-off for many ...
hope this helps ...
