Sigma 18-35 f/1.8

You simply can't match the lineup of fast FX glass for DX, no matter how much money you want to spend. You can't match the depth of field control without a stop faster, but there's no such thing as a 17-50mm f2.0 DX lens equivalent to the 24-70mm f2.8 for example.

High ISO performance is so good these days that the best reason to get fast glass is for creative control. You can't obtain the same capability at most focal lengths with DX at any price.

The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is equivalent to a 27-55mm f/2.7 in terms of DOF (except you use 1 stop lower ISO) and costs $800. So $1,200 + 800 = $2,000. A D600 with a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 would cost $2000+ 800 = $2,800.
