Yes

A 500/5.6 IS would be an excellent addition to the Canon system. The aperture diameter (89mm) would slot nicely between the existing 75mm (300/4, 400/5.6) and 100mm (200/2, 300/2.8, 400/4) and such a lens could be perfect for wildlife photography while hiking. More flexible and even better would be a 350/4 with integrated 1.4x TC. A relatively fair price for such a lens would be $3500-4000. Given the outrageous pricing of Canon's new 200-400/4 it could of course be much more expensive.
