Are we all clients of Sony ?

Canon has been using Sony sensors in their compact (non-DSLR) cameras for years and years.

Also, Sony has invested in Olympus and they have an agreement whereby Sony will supply sensors to Olympus and Olympus will design and make lenses for Sony.

Nikon used Sony sensors in their DSLRs until recently when I've heard that Nikon is making their own for top level DSLR's.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with other companies using Sony sensors.  In the auto industry, many companies use components made by the same supplier, even transmissions.  However, since there are obvious differences in sensors from different manufacturers, I would like to know who made the sensor in a camera I'm interested in.  A bit like knowing who made the engine in my car.
