5D vs 5Dmk3 jpegs at high iso settings

I have been using an original 5D for a few years and am considering upgrading to a 5D Mark III. I specialise in theatre photography, which has its own challenges: low, mixed lighting, some movement, group shots, so in order to get decent shots I need high ISO settings.  The original 5D produces very acceptable results up to 800.  I am aware that the 5D Mark III has a much wider ISO range, so I should expect usable results at higher settings, so my question concerns the quality of the jpegs. The review on this site suggests that jpeg output with the 5D Mark III is not that great - implying also that anyone buying a 5D Mark III would in any case be shooting raw.  This is just not feasible with the sort of work I (and am sure many other professionals) do. Theatre people require shots the next day - often up to 100 images in order to fully represent the show, so there simply isn't time to process raw files.  My workflow comprises cropping, lifting (using levels) and minimal sharpening with USM, which only takes a few seconds per shot. Does anyone have experience of using both the original 5D and the Mark III, specifically comparing jpegs at high ISO settings?
