Am looking for a budget 70-300mm lens to go with my a57. Have found these 4 so far on Amazon and was wandering which one would be better for the money?

Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro DG - £99 (got good reviews on Amazon UK)

Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro DG - £144 (got worse reviews than above and more expensive)

Tamron AF 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di LD - £99 (reviews wasn't as good as the 1st lens)

Sony Alpha 75-300mm - £179.99 (dearer and seems the best choice, but is it worth the extra money??)

Feel free to add to the list

I have the Tamron 70-300mm Di LD and it is a reasonable lens for the money. It gives me good results in very bright sun but otherwise it can be quite soft.

Taken with my 70-300mm.

This is quite soft when you start zooming in - looks good on an 8x10 though

Surprisingly this was taken on my 70-300 straight OOC. I used the MACRO function which seems to help with the sharpness.

All shots OOC with no PP. The macro function does help with sharpness. If you can get it for £80 or less I think your doing well and would be a good start. I will be replacing mine at some point with something better but unsure of what

Not bad for a budget lens. Thankyou for sharing.

I would love the 55-300 to be updated to the same SAM spec as the 18-135. The 18-135 is a fabulous lens and every APS-C Sony user should have a copy!

The 18-135 and either the 55-300 or Tamron 70-300 USD would have you covered in most scenarios
