Re: nx1000 firmware

I just went through this with my new NX20, which came out last year about the time of the NX1000. It will ship to you with last year's firmware, but it is easily updated...if you follow the correct steps.

There are two options per Samsung; 1 - use the Intelli-studio software, or 2 - download the files from their website and transfer the files to your SD card to run on the camera. I used option 2, but did not do it properly in my initial attempts. The firmware update for the body has two files - a .bin file and a .rom (read only memory) file. You copy both files to your SD card and then do the update on the camera. You can download the PDF file of instructions from the Samsung website also, but it does not tell you that both files should be copied to the SD card. You can also update the firmware for any lenses that might need to be updated, but that requires some investigation on your part, and/or asking questions on this forum. Hopefully folks won't provide unhelpful/snarky answers as a previous poster did.

Here's a link to the Samsung website for downloading the firmware (body and lenses), plus the instructions PDF. Edit: I just clicked on this link to check how it will display, and it shows me you will have to click on the Manuals & Downloads tab, then on Firmware. Once in Firmware, you can click on the firmware name link (either body or lenses) for it to expand and show the narrative.  Then click the Download link to download a Zip file, which then has to be extracted on your computer so you can get to the files.  This method requires some minimal computer skills to download, extract, then copy the files to your SD card, then put the card back in the camera to run the updates.

Here is a post I added yesterday regarding my experience, and it includes a detailed reply I received from Samsung on doing the upgrade with Intelli-studio. This method has the software do the work for you, mostly.  Some people has said they tried this method and it did not work for them, but perhaps they did not follow the details Samsung gave me.  I do not have Intelli-studio installed on my iMac, so did the downloads myself.

Your camera probably will come with the body firmware 01.11, and the newest one is 01.13. Please read the details of the firmware update (click More link if it is not already expanded to show the information).

Lens updates depend on which lenses you own.

Thank you very much!
