Are more megapixels always better?

And will the quest for more and more megapixels ever stop?  If so, is there a top limit, which when reached, will be as far as such things can logically go?  Or is this more of an infinity sort of thing?

As megapixels continue increasing by camera manufacturers, what is gained by this increase?

Is a "logical" maximum number of Mpxls determined by the size of a camera's sensor?

I'm completely in the dark about all this, and could stand to be enlightened.

Bring it on.  Thanks.
