50mm or 85mm for portraits?

Another vote for the 60 macro here. It comes out to around 100mm, which is a very good balance between 85mm and 135mm equivalents (i.e. more versatile in general use). And lots of people will kvetch about it being "only f/2.8" and therefore not great for the all-important thin DoF shots...but at standard portrait distances you can stop down to f/8 and still have a completely blurred background. F/2.8 is more than fast enough!

Really though, an above poster had it right...try out the 50/1.8 before you make any decisions. You might come to love it. Be warned, though: we ain't lyin' about slow AF!
