The one thing I absolutely missed the first time I was in Yellowstone was a long telephoto lens - way longer than 300mm. I'd rent a Tamron 200-500 (or a Sigma 50-500), and a Kenko 2x TC if I went back. And good support, of course.

I don't really remember needing UWA when I was there. I think a 16-85 (or your 17-55, if you want low light) and a telephoto like above would be a good combo.

So should I bring my Tamron 200-400 f/5.6 and Tamron 1.4 TC?

Based on my experience last year - I would say 16-85 on one camera (mostly satisfy landscapes), your Tamron 200-400 (200-500??) without TC on the other ready just in case you see some wildlife, 11-16 in the bag. There are some ponds where you need to take pictures from incredibly close to avoid other people - but ultra wide (there are some like that in my gallery).

Nice gallery of Yellowstone.  My plans are the 16-85 on one body and still unsure on the other.  I'm not super happen with the Tamron 200-400 so I may use my Sigma 100-300 or Nikon 70-300 with the 1.4 TC.

Thanks everyone for all the advise.
