Is it a bad idea to use an Oly E-PM2 in cold weather?

I know the limitations on the specs say 0 C  .. but my friend uses an old full body Oly E-500 DSLR in -34 C with no issue .. and I'm just wondering if using it in colder temps will break it?

I had an old E-PL1 that I used in cold temps but it would very often take 1 shot and then the shutter would fail and I'd have to power cycle the camera till it could shoot again.

I had a lot of trouble, but the E-PL1 was an old warhorse already before I took it into the cold so I'm not entirely sure if it wasn't the age playing a factor.

Now I'm wondering if I should expect the same issues with E-PM2 and simply not take it into cold temps and get something else?
