50mm or 85mm for portraits?

The 85mm f1.8 is a very good lens. Even with all my other options, I'll sometimes use it because it is relatively small, light, and fast. Unless you want to wait until you can afford something more flexible (such as the 17-55 f2.8) I recommend getting it for your portrait lens. Just remember that it is a little long on a crop body.
