Focusing group of people at different distances

Hello,

I have a 600D and had also a 350D. I don't get good results when I make a photo of a group and not everybody is at the same distance. Not everybody is in focus.

In my experience the most reliable way to focus is use the center point only (deactivating other points), but then you can only focus one person and the others are not focused properly.

I use P mode in 90% of cases. If I leave all focusing points active (instead of only the center) the result is random, in many cases it does not focus everybody in the group. The same happens If I use A-DEP mode.

What is your experience ?

Thanks for your help

Jose Maria
