I am going to purchase the 15-85 and the 10-22.

Check Canon USA for Refurbished versions.  I got my EF-S 15-85 that way, great price:

Link to Canon USA Refurb Lenses and Speedlites

currently lists the 15-85 in stock for just $544 (though they charge state sales tax).

I should be able to purchase both this summer. What would be a good telephoto lens to add that doesn't cost $2000.

Each of the following are optically good to excellent and <$1500

  • EF-S 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS ($204 refurb at the above link)
  • Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 VC USD
  • EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM ($442 refurb at the above link)
  • EF 200 f/2.8L USM
  • EF 70-200 f/4L USM
  • EF 70-200 f/4L IS USM
  • EF 70-200 f/2.8L USM
  • EF 400 f/5.6L USM
  • EF 300 f/4L IS USM
  • EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS USM
  • EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM ($1155 !! refurb at the above link)
