Maybe I didn't phrase my note precisely enough. What the OP wanted, I think, is some guidance when taking the shot, as to how it's going to turn out when he opens it in whatever program he's going to process it in, or view it in. The in-camera histograms are far from perfect, but they do give guidance about how the image will be exposed (the pre-exposure histo) and how it was exposed (the review histo). To me, saying something like "RAW means RAW" is meaningless. I guess it's meant to imply that the writer knows more than other people, is somehow more pure or exacting. But it doesn't have much meaning in the sense of helping the OP.
