One option I did not see suggested is getting a flash. A good flashgun like 430 or 580 ex ii can really take your indoor shots to the next level. And with 60D you can use it wireless. I got a Tamron 17-50 non VC and with the red LED AF assist from the flash, it locks right on even in the dark. Once you try a flash and see what it can do, you might reconsider your upgrade needs.

I actually have, and use a Canon Speedlite 430EX ii, and usually bounce the flash off of the ceiling, or the wall when taking indoor shots.

But, after just getting my prints from the camera store I usually use, I am wondering if some of the problem isn't my processing of the photos to print.

The prints from the pix I just took with the rented 24-70 f/2.8 lens look, well, horrible considering it's a $2000 lens, and the images looked amazing on the 60D screen and my computer.

So, now to search for somewhere to get the prints made and compare them!

Yet another variable for me to rule out as a problem.
