Good morning!

My wife and I will be traveling to Europe this winter and

out of necessity doing a lot of low light photography.

We recently purchased a Fuji X-E1 and the 18-55 lens,

as well as the 14mm and 60mm.

I am wanting to replace my Canon S90 with something similar

and faster! The IQ is very nice but my main issues are shutter lag

and the F5.9 aperture at the long end!

After a lot of research I've narrowed the choices down to

The Canon G15 and the Panasonic LX-7.

I'm leaning toward the LX-7 at this point, as it is wider and slightly

faster than the G15. I''m also under the impression that the IQ of the G15

can vary significantly. My main criterion for a replacement is size, IQ and low-light ability.

Any comments by users of either of these two cameras will be appreciated!

Thanks!

FYI, the G15 and LX7 are not pocket cameras. They need to be carried in a bag or on a neck strap. Just saying because you placed "size" as your #1 criteria.

faster than the G15.--
Consider the Sony RX100 as it is the best pocketable camera now on the market. Large chip, 20 mp for terrific cropping ability, low light operation.

I cannot say enough good things about mine....and I had an S90 before.

I agree with DonD. On a recent trip two of my colleagues had the Sony RX100. I have looked at most their photos and they are excellent. There was no PP'ing. There were shots taken outside in the sun, on a cloudy day, and indoors with low light. I had an S90 that produced very good photos in the same situation, but a number have been PP'd. If I were in the market for a camera today, I would look seriously at the RX100. It has a larger sensor and less noise.

I've also seen the quality of the RX100's videos and they are excellent.

The best part with the RX100 is that it is just as "pocketable" as the S90.

So, good luck on your decision.

If you value a bright lens at all zoom lengths - and want more than 90mm - then the G15 is the winner. I've owned the S90 and S100 and sold them for the G15. I've never read anything about varying image quality on the G15; mine is very consistent. Yes, it is not pocket-able like the RX100, but it's not as slow at the long end either. Compare its image quality on the comparison page here with several competitors and decide for yourself.
