I guess it depends on how you process....

When I convert with Lightroom (I always shoot RAW, except in those cases where cameras only shoot in JPG - but even then I set up Lightroom so I can process JPG's through it), I take care in ensuring the right balance.  As a result I manage to get sterling results, regardless of what camera I use.  But I personally never downsize the image to a smaller MP count.  I can imagine that some folks would do that, but I find that in 99% of the cases, I can coax the results I want.  For a smallish sensor, the RAW files of the SX-50 HS actually have lots of info in them.

I haven't posted much on the Canon forum.  The problem is that I own around 20 different brand digital cameras and I tend to find myself posting mostly on the micro 4/3, Nikon, and Fuji forums.
