What the D100 considers a "sunny" day and what is a sunny day defined by you, are two different things. I have to agree with others on here that erroring on the underexposing side, is the best. As far as aperture setting, you could go higher, but I would rather increase your shutter speed first. Try 1/500sec next time in a similar setting/day, and preview and zoom in on areas that could be "bloomed" with too much light (i.e., blowout areas).
