Canon 100mm 2.8 usm question

Hello all.

I own a T2I/550D and I'm seriously considering the Canon 100mm 2.8 USM and of course will use it for macro etc BUT could this be used as a birding lens when they are around 20 feet away from me generally such as hummingbirds etc. I know that on my crop camera that it will give me 160mm if my math is correct.

I'm looking for opinions on only this lens in the situations I've mentioned.

Thanks for your opinions it's appreciated.

Tim
