Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM Lens Worth Getting?

The 50mm f1.4 is a great lens and I personally use it a lot. The focus mechanism is an old type of USM that still has some gears and you can hear a small sound when it focuses ( compared to my 24-105 or the 85 mm f1.8 USM is a bit noisier). Manual focus is great but doesn't have that very long run that you might need in video. For that maybe look at the Samyang 35mm cine lens. They are great optically, have a declicked version and the focus has a very long race for precise manual focus.
The Canon is great from f2.2-f2.8 up. It is usable from f1.4 to f2, but some chromatic aberations can be seen. Also it is slightly soft in that area but you probably won't notice this in video. I shoot mainly stills so I prefer to use it from f2.2 up. Also under f2 the focus field is so small you will have a real problem focusing - maybe only still subjects from a tripod.
