PC sales falling acutely, impact on photo-video editing software to follow

One can blame the migration to mobile devices, the "commoditization" of PCs (used like microwaves until dead), the slow economy, or dislike of Windows 8.

Whatever the reason, if sales of new PCs fall by double-digit margins each year until 2015, the impact on photo or video editing products will be dramatic.

Normally, new PC sales give a boost to sales of new software, whether by new customers or by people who decide to upgrade when acquiring a faster or fancier device.

Take that wind out of the sails, and sales fall too.  (Yeah, a pun)

Add the fact that it takes more R&D $ to achieve improvements that fewer and fewer will buy, and you have bad news.

This, plus the maintenance cost time bomb of permanent licensing,  helps explain the 67% 1-QTr-13 fall in Adobe operating profits and the companies decision to lock onto profits of its existing CS client base by adopty the temporary licensing approach.
