Understand your chosen format instead.

Manufacture DX lenses and give them a FX focal length, instead of the equivalent?

Why can't photographers learn what FOV certain lenses have on their chosen format? I know 16mm on DX is pretty wide and I like the look of 85mm on DX for a portraits. Why concern myself with the FF "equivalent" is? Or what other people think is the "right focal length on FF to use". Given I mostly shot medium format on film, how does a 16mm lens on DX compare to a 65mm lens on a 6X9 camera? Or a 45mm lens on 6X6 I know they all are a pretty wide angle for their format so I'm OK with simply knowing that.
