My refurb SX40HS came - a little customizing

The weather is gray and rainy, so even inside shots are gloomy.  The shootout with my Panasonic FZ150 will have to wait.  I did take a half dozen shots to be sure it was OK and it seems to be just fine.

I typically customize my cameras in simple ways and the SX40HS is no exception.  This shot shows a Franiec hot shoe cover, and a filler I put in the hole left by Canon's abominable hot shoe cover.  I think it looks a lot better but that's just my opinion.  The filler piece is heavy duty Velcro pile, and it will come out with no residue left behind.

The neck strap is a light one from an older Canon, probably the G9 or the S5IS.  Also, note that a 52 mm filter has been fitted to the lens.  Since the SX10IS, Canon has been putting circumferential ribs on the inside of the front of the lens.  They are not threads; but a 52 mm filter will engage the plastic and screw in securely.  No adapters needed and the hood fits with a filter in place.  A 52 mm UV or clear with a thin rim does not vignette at full wide angle, but a polarizer will vignette if stacked on the UV.  That goes away as soon as you zoom in just a bit.  Just don't screw filters in and out a lot or you will damage the ribs and then the cap won't hang on.

So far, I like the camera.

Note the filter, hot shoe cover, and filler piece.

Now, I'm praying for rain so I can really test the camera.
